Day of surgery
For all surgical appointments, you must present signed command approval on the day of surgery.
Local Anesthesia: DO NOT PT THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT. Eat a small meal; brush your teeth. Wear
comfortable/appropriate civilian clothing.
IV Sedation ONLY…
1. Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you to and from the appointment. This person must stay in the clinic until you are ready to go home and must sit with you for at least 3-4 hours after you have returned to quarters.
2. Do not eat or drink anything (not even water) for eight hours before your surgery. Your Oral Surgeon may instruct you to take your regular prescription medications with a small sip of water the morning of surgery. If you take prescription medications and are not sure if you should take them the day of surgery please ask.
BEFORE YOUR SURGERY…
1. Inform your work center supervisor about this scheduled appointment.
2. Adequate nutrition and fluid intake is important for optimum healing after surgery. Obtain and prepare foods that you can eat after surgery. A soft diet for the first few days is recommended. Have plenty of juices or non-carbonated drinks on hand to insure good hydration.
3. After your surgery, you may benefit from ice packs placed on your face. Before surgery, arrange to have ice and a container of some kind (like a zip lock bag) available to use after surgery.
THE DAY OF SURGERY…
1. Brush your teeth before your appointment.
2. Wear loose, comfortable clothing the day of surgery. A short-sleeved T-shirt is ideal.
3. Do not wear contact lenses to your appointment. Leave jewelry or other valuables at home.
4. If you have not left your dental record with us, be sure to bring it for your appointment.
5. If you use an inhaler for asthma, bring it to your appointment.
If you develop a cough or cold before the appointment, or need to reschedule for another time, let us know as soon as possible so another individual can be scheduled.
